Semantica: search for fashion, by sentence (HashStyle)
A shop searched by asking in plain language, on the language models of 2015. The engine underneath became BioSeek.
What it shows
Type what you would say to a shop assistant, not a keyword: a dress for a wedding in June, something warm that goes with these boots. The engine reads the sentence for what it means, matches it to the catalogue, and the results follow the sense rather than the words. Recorded in January 2017, near the end of HashStyle.
The recording is silent. What it shows was built in 2015, eight years before the same idea was named an LLM shopping assistant; that gap is one of the thirteen on the plate.
The system
HashStyle, chapter V, co-founded in 2015: an e-commerce platform that understood sentences on the primitive language models of the time. It came within reach of an acquisition by Viber; the deal fell through and the company nearly went under. The semantic engine survived and became BioSeek.
