BioSeek, the biotechnology re:search engine

One minute from 2019: the questions a keyword search cannot answer about a disease, and a search engine that answers them with the sources attached.

What it shows

How many patents related to Parkinson's disease were filed last year. Which genes are related to it. Which university is the most active in multiple sclerosis research. Which company holds the most patents related to diabetes. A keyword search returns pages; BioSeek returns the answer, with analytics and visualisations over premium life-science sources.

The recording is the product's own introduction, made in 2019, a year after the company started. What it describes is still what BioSeek does: the text of the literature and the patents read as a knowledge graph, so that a question about a target, a compound or a competitor is answered as a fact with its sources rather than as a list of documents.

The system

Underneath is the entity-recognition algorithm from chapter VI: around one million genes, compounds, organisms and drugs found in a page of text in under a millisecond, with statistics and careful memory layout rather than machine learning, and the graph built from what it finds. The same algorithm is licensed to Dynamo Software, where it links customer databases to document corpora for 42 clients.

Transcript

We at BioSeek have created the most advanced search engine for life science.

More than 10 million people worldwide are living with Parkinson's disease. Can your search engine tell you how many patents related to Parkinson's disease were filed last year, or which genes are related to it? Can your search engine tell you which university is the most active in multiple sclerosis research, or which company holds the largest number of patents related to diabetes? No, it can't. But BioSeek can.

We enrich the standard keyword search with powerful analytical tools and cutting-edge data visualisations. In a matter of seconds we deliver to you information from premium sources in the life sciences domain. Join our community of thousands of researchers, medical professionals and patients who chose BioSeek.
